  • Our Mission

    The Greater Bandon Association is a catalytic community building organization dedicated to the community and economic vitalization of the greater Bandon area with a focus on preserving and building upon its historical assets and culture.

    Our Vision

    Our approach to revitalization is a commitment to creating a place of shared prosperity, equal access to opportunity and inclusive engagement. We wish to develop and implement community-based strategies to enhance economic opportunity, build strong neighborhoods and ensure a dynamic framework for quality growth and development.

    Our Core Values

    Our core values are based upon our community members’ appreciation of and support for:

    • maintaining the small-town charm that Bandon possesses;
    • natural and cultural amenities that attract people to live in and visit Bandon:
    • expanding categories of goods and services to make Bandon even more livable;
    • outdoor recreational opportunities;
    • supporting locally produced goods that are unique to the area;
    • focusing on tourism strategies that invite visitors to enjoy what Bandon has to offer.

    Organization Strategy

    Our overall strategies are to be local serving and appealing to visitors. Our strategy is Relaxed Coastal Living. To achieve this aim, we have identified the following markets:
    • Family and active retiree – active retiree reflects our demography and knowledge of the people who come to the community, love the area, and decide to retire in Bandon. Family friendly reflects a desire to make Bandon a place where people can stay and raise their families or attract more families to Bandon.
    • Local goods and services – reflect a desire to have easier access to basic goods and services to meet the needs of residents and visitors.
    • Enhanced visitor experience – reflects building upon the authenticity of downtown that makes it invite for local people and, in the process make it invite to visitors as well.
    • Local coastal cuisine – reflects the number of businesses that sell and serve locally produced items as well as the availability of fresh local seafood and produce. This reflects local market trends and community energy towards becoming a “foodie” destination.

    Harv Schubothe - Board President

    Harv Schubothe is a long‑time community leader in Bandon, Oregon, known for his steady commitment to civic service, environmental stewardship, and local economic vitality.

    Coming to Bandon after a 30 year career directing and managing State government agencies, he has served the City of Bandon in key volunteer roles, including chairing the Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission where his practical insight and collaborative approach support the city’s long‑term infrastructure planning.

    Prior to serving as the Greater Bandon Association’s Executive Director for 13 years, he was the executive director for the Bandon Youth Center for five years. A Ford Family Foundation Community Fellow, Harv also serves as President for the Cape Arago Audubon Society, reflecting his dedication to conservation and coastal ecology and as Vice President for Restore Oregon, the state’s historic preservation commission. Tom Orsi - Board Vice-President

    Tom Orsi retired to Bandon after a long career in Educational Publishing. The first half of the career focused on sales and marketing and he was a senior sales and marketing executive. The second half of the career he led a team in information technology that focused on developing sales and marketing automation systems for a global publishing enterprise. Tom’s team’s strength in developing these systems was working closely with multiple organizations to understand their processes and specific needs and adapt systems that resulted in process improvement.

    Tom retired to Oregon because he likes outdoor activities, and for many years he was the leader of the South Coast Striders hiking group, coordinating hikes along the south coast for several hundred members. He now serves as a member of the Bandon Planning Commission

    Anne McCaleb - Board Secretary

    Since moving to Bandon in 2020, Anne McCaleb has brought remarkable experience and steady leadership to a wide range of community organizations. A CPA with deep financial expertise, she has served on the Greater Bandon Association Board since 2024. She also contributes her professional services to local nonprofits, often at no cost, and supports key community events through sponsorship and hands‑on involvement.

She founded Second Spring, a perimenopause support group offering connection and resources to local women, and she never hesitates to step in wherever help is needed—sometimes even “volunteering” her husband along the way. Anne embodies what it means to be part of a caring, connected community, and Bandon is stronger because of her commitment.
